Summary

Kenya has a rich history of rock art, ranging over several thousand years with a variety of styles and themes. On this 10 days/09 night’s safari you visit the rock sites in Nairobi’s National park, Lewa Downs, and Loyangalani. You will also enjoy adventure and culture of the Local people The adventure will include wildlife adventure into Namunyuk conservancy and Marsabit National Park the home to the huge taske Elephants, you also take a desert safari to Chalbi desert and a visit to the Jade sea.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative who will share with you your full itinerary then transfer you to your Nairobi Hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure enjoying the amenities at the hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi National Park-Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

After an early morning breakfast, you will depart and drive a few kilometers out of the city center to the World’s only Wildlife Capital famously known as Nairobi National Park. The park has an abundant wildlife including lions, buffalo, rhino and giraffe as well as numerous beautiful birds.

You will also explore the cultural heritage in the park which includes rock shelters and overhangs used in the past by Ndorobo hunter-gatherers and Maasai Pastoralists. On one of the overhangs, located in the Mokoiyete Valley, one can find rock paintings, which may be more than 100 years old. These abstract motifs portray painted shields and dwellings are daubed on to the rock in ochre – red white and yellow – and animal fat.

Later at around 0800 hours you will depart Nairobi drive up to Thika Town to Makuyu further up to Nyeri where you will be allowed a short break to have your packed lunch. You will then proceed further to Nanyuki town and finally to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. You will arrive in good time to check in at the lodge and immediately proceed for an afternoon game drive within the conservancy where you will enjoy great game viewing.

You are expected back to the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 3: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

You will set out just before sunrise for an early morning game drive as you enjoy the richness of the Park's wildlife and endless savannah. The game drive is outstanding because other than enjoying the backdrop of beautiful views of the snowcapped Mt. Kenya, you will see plenty wildlife like:- the black Rhinos‚ buffaloes‚ Elephants, Lions, Wild dogs, Cheaters, Hyenas, Leopards, bird life and most of all the Northern specialty species – Found exclusively north of the equator, these animals have the ability to thrive in hot, arid areas. Lewa is one of the few places in Kenya where one can see all five of the following Northern specialty species: the reticulated giraffe, the Somali ostrich, the Beisaoryx, the gerenuk and the Grevy's zebra.

You will return to the camp for breakfast then enjoy other activities of your choice at the Camp. The activities include horse riding, hiking, camel safaris, a visit to the local community or just enjoy your stay at the lodge.

You will later take an early evening game drive to explore more of the conversancy.This paradise, other than its wildlife, it is a place with an ancient past including a lakebed where many hand axes have been found dating back several hundred thousand years. The other attraction is the rock art which consists of geometric and abstract rock paintings as well as of rock gongs. Gongs can be recognized for the large numbers of cupules – carved cup-shaped depressions. When struck in different places with a hammer gongs produce different tones just like a musical instrument. Rock gongs were likely used for divining purposes and ritual communication in the past.

Day 4: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy - Namunyak Wildlife Conservation

On this day, after breakfast, you will embark on your tour van for another safari of about 4 hours to Namunyak Conservancy. You are expected to arrive in good time for lunch and later take an afternoon game drive to enjoy what the conservancy offers.

The Namunyak Conservancy is the result of collaboration between the Samburu community and Northern Rangeland Trust. Like other native communities in Kenya, the Samburu people have come to embrace the idea that protection of wildlife advances the needs, well-being and quality of life of their people. The revenue is generated is dedicated to the safeguarding of its ecosystem and wildlife protection, water resource development, educational initiatives and healthcare resources for the Samburu community. This Conservation has become a safe home for many animals including the african wild dogs, de brazza colobus monkeys,kudus, elephants, buffalos, leopards, lions and Northern specialty species namely the reticulated giraffe, the Somali ostrich, the Beisaoryx, the gerenuk and the Grevy’s zebra.

Day 5: Namunyak Wildlife Conservation

This day you will take an early morning game drive so as to see more animals as you enjoy the scenery. Later you will be back to the lodge in good time for breakfast and later visit the local communities to engage with them and enjoy their traditional dances.

You will be back to the lodge in good time for lunch and later take an evening game drive still to show you more as you enjoy the sunset. Be back to the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 6: Namunyak Wildlife Conservation-Marsabit National Park

After enjoying your breakfast, we depart and head farther north to "A remote paradise for nature lovers". The beautiful Marsabit National Park is a refuge for huge tusked bull elephants, diverse birdlife and reptiles.

You are expected in good time for lunch and later depart for an evening game drive within the park.

The famous place to visit is the crater lakes Lake SokorteDika and Lake Paradise. The two are some of the best places to spot animals, as the rest of the park is covered in dense forest. You will see animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Rhino, Lion, Leopard, and Greater Kudu antelopes, the rare Grevy's Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe and Baboons. You will also see different Bird species and Butterfly species. Thepark is also Last refuge of the huge-tusked bull elephant Ahmed who was protected from poachers by the president’s decree, and he died at age 63 years.

Day 7: Marsabit National Park-Chalbi Desert.

After a very early breakfast, we will depart from the park with a game drive en route through outcrops of lava rock and enter a land populated by the Borana and the Gabbra tribes. We arrive in good time to interact with the fascinating Gabbra tribe's people, their culture and watch the camels come to water.

The Chalbi Desert is a huge area of around 100,000 sq km of virtually flat sandy desert, it is a white salt pan, incredibly remote palm-lined oasis totally surrounded by extinct volcanoes and ancient lava flows.

Day 8: Chalbi Desert- Loyangalani Oasis

After a very early breakfast, you will have a transfer to Loyangalani on Lake Turkana where you will enjoy the culture and dance of the local people and visit some of the art sites

Lake Turkana being an alkaline lake, Loyangalani village was founded near a freshwater spring where the El Molo people. The main attraction in the area is the surrounding El Molo and Turkana villages, amongst others who offer unique cultural experiences. It is also an area with a rich rock art heritage, the art here consists of ancient images and symbols that tell us of different eras when the region, often referred to as the Cradle of Mankind, teamed with wild animals and supported diverse human populations. There are three main rock art sites in Marsabit County. Surima located between Loiyangalani and South Horr, Marti located between Loiyangalani and Mt Kulal, and Afgaba located along the north eastern edge of the Chalbi desert.

Day 9: Loyangalani Oasis-Isiolo

On this day, we will take an early morning breakfast and carry our packed lunch. We will thendepart for a day longs journey to Isiolo.

Day 10: Isiolo-Nairobi.

After enjoyingbreakfast, you will embark on your tour van for a long drive to Nairobi. This will be an enjoyable road trip since you will pass along several towns before getting to Nairobi. Along the way, you will make a stopover for lunch then proceed with your journey.

You are expected in Nairobi in good time for a transfer for your flight back home or to your hotel.
