The Great Kenya Bird Watching Safari

Day 1: Arrival - Nairobi National Park

Once you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your city hotel for check in and immediately depart for Nairobi National Park for a half day birding. You will have a picnic lunch at the Impala point or at the many picnic sites located in the park.

The Nairobi National park boosts of over 515 species in an area of only 117km².

You will be back at the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 2: NAIROBI - OLORGESAILIE - NAIROBI Nairobi - Olorgesailie

After breakfast, we embark on our tour van and drive down the rift valley to Olorgesaille along Magadi Road typically a hot country. You will enjoy the whole day of bird watching, enjoy your picnic and rive back to the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening al leisure.

Day 3: NAIVASHA Nairobi - Manguo Ponds Lake Naivasha

On this day after breakfast, we depart from Nairobi for a scenic drive through the great North road to Lake Naivasha. We will stop Manguo ponds to see a few species of birds then later at the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley for stunning views then proceed with our journey and expected to arrive at the Lake Naivasha in good time to embark on a bird walking safari.

Lake Naivasha being a fresh water lake on the Rift floor is home to an incredible variety of species. Over 450 species have been recorded here.

We will break for lunch and later in the afternoon we will go for a 1 hour bout ride on Lake Naivasha.

You will be back to the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru

After an early morning breakfast we depart Lake Naivasha for the Highland Grassland birding Lake Nakuru Park also regarded by avid birders' as the greatest World ornithological spectacle on the Earth. We will be in search of two Kenyan endemics AberdareCisticola and Sharpe’s Long claw will also look for more specialties like Wing-snapping, Hunter’s, Levaillant’sCisticolas, Great Crested Grebe, Maccoa& African White-backed Ducks, Lesser Jacana among many others.

After lunch we will proceed for an afternoon game drive which will also allow us to see the many wild animals in the park and especially the park is the Sanctuary to the Black Rhino, White Rhino and the Rothschild Giraffe. You will be back to the lodge in good time for Dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Baringo Conservation Area

After our breakfast, we will depart and drive further North to Lake Baringo, we are expected to arrive in good time for us to take a bird walk around the hotel and later break for Lunch. After a relaxed lunch we'll descend down on to the cliffs to look for the white faced Scopes owl, Black throated barbet, mouse collared tit.

We return to the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 6: Lake Baringo

On this day, we will be birding around Lake Baringo Conservation Area. We will have lunch and dinner at the lodge and enjoy the evening at own leisure.

Day 7: Lake Baringo - Kakamega Forest Reserve

Today we will have an early breakfast and depart Lake Baringo for Kakamega Forest Park.

We are expected to arrive in good time for dinner and enjoy the remaining evening with traditional dances from the local people.

Day 8 and Day 9: Kakamega Forest Reserve

On these two days, you take a game drive within the park to discover the unique birds in the forest as you plant a tree. You will have lunch and dinner at the lodge for the two days. On one of the afternoon you will visit the Luhyia village for traditional dance (Isukuti dance), Shiriri dance, Matombole dance, Indevendeve dance and Luhyia culture talk.

You are expected back to the lodge in good time for dinner and then have an entertainment evening with entertainment from traditional Luyhia dance known as Isukuti.

The Kakamega forest the only tropical rain forest in Kenya that used to stretch from West Africa to East Africa in Western Kenya. This is the only true rain forest remaining in Kenya and was once a continuation of the Guinea-Congolian rainforest, rich in species nowhere else to be seen in Kenya.The forest is very unique with a lot of wildlife, birds, butterflies, very old massive rain forest trees, massive strangler fic trees and primates.

Day 10: Kakamega Forest - Kisumu (Lake Victoria)

After an early morning breakfast we head on the west in search of the localized Rock Pratincole along the river while birding the whole morning on the villages, farmland and Grasslands. We hope to find a few more localized birds such as the Bar-breasted Fire finch, Yellow-throated Leaf love, Senegal Coucal, White-crested Turaco, and Copper’s Sunbird, among others.

We will then depart Kakamega for Kisumu. On arrival you will take a Kisumu city tour that will take you to the Lake Victoria where you can participate in fishing and continue to enjoy bird watching and other attractions and activities in the city.

You will enjoy lunch at a city hotel then continue with your tour but be back to the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 11: Day : Kisumu (Lake Victoria) - Masai Mara Reserve

After breakfast, you will take a morning bird walking along the Papyrus vegetation with expectation to see some of the specialties like the Papyrus Gonolek, Swamp Flycatcher, Greater Swamp Warbler, White-winged Warbler, Red-chested, Copper Sunbirds, Slender-billed, Northern Brown-throated, Yellow-backed, Jackson’s Golden-backed Weavers, Southern Red Bishop, Black-billed Barbet.

You return to the hotel in good time for breakfast and immediately depart for Masai Mara with packed lunch en route. You are expected to arrive in good time for an evening game drive toexplore the world famous Masai Mara Reserve but be at the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 12 and Day 13: Masai Mara Game Reserve

For the 2 days in the game reserve, we will takegame drives and birdwalks along the escarpment in search of the Red-tailed Chat, Long-tailed & Rock Cisticolas, Yellow-bellied Hyliota, Schalow’s Turaco, and Pale Wren Warbler while a bonus of the Mwanza Flat-headed Agama is almost guaranteed.

Lunch and dinner will be at the lodge.

DAY 14: Depart

After breakfast, we check out of the lodge and embark on our trip back to Nairobi. On arrival we will proceed to the Carnivore restaurant for lunch and later be transferred to the international airport for your flight back home.
