Kendirita Tours’ Termly CSR-September 2025

For hundreds of students, a simple hygiene kit can mean confidence, health, and uninterrupted learning. That’s why, on Friday, 5th September 2025, our team at Kendirita Tours came together once again for our termly CSR event at Kibera YMCA School. This visit marked our sixth in two years since we commenced the program in early 2024.

As is tradition, we were accompanied by Y’s Men Club Nairobi, with whom we’ve worked closely to support the school. Our CSR activity also coincided with an important milestone: the official launch of the first-ever science laboratory at Kibera YMCA. The lab will benefit thousands of junior secondary school (JSS) students for years to come.

Impact of Hygiene on Education

Poor hygiene is one of the leading causes of preventable illnesses among children in underserved communities. Simple habits like washing hands and bathing daily can reduce the risk of infections, boost self-esteem, and create a better learning environment. Access to hygiene products (like soap, clean water, and sanitary items) ensures girls, especially, can attend school regularly.

That said, economic challenges facing our communities make it difficult for families to afford some of these basic needs. At Kendirita Tours, we acknowledge there is a gap and have stepped in, setting aside resources to help provide hygiene kits for students at Kibera YMCA school.

Our Contribution for Term 3

This term, we provided hygiene kits to all students in the school, from grades 1 to 9. Children in lower classes (Grades 1-3) received a bar of washing soap, bathing soap, petroleum jelly, and a pair of undergarments, while those in grades 4-9 received twice the number of these items, with an additional 3 packets of sanitary pads each for the girls.

These items will not only last the school term, but will also be sufficient for the upcoming long holiday season of November and December.

Contribution from our Partners

Our partners at Y’s Men Nairobi also came bearing gifts of kindness. They donated Kes. 75,000 worth of food items, including rice, beans, maize, and cooking oil.

While the government of Kenya funds feeding programs in public schools, Kibera YMCA (being a community-led school) relies heavily on the generosity of well-wishers. Y’s Men’s donation will go a long way in ensuring that no child goes hungry.

Impact

Kendirita team

The impact of the joint initiative between Kendirita Tours and Y’s Men Nairobi at Kibera YMCA school is profound. Our arrival that Friday morning was met by bright smiles on eager faces, a testament to the difference we are making. Healthy, clean children playing and learning together reflect the foundation of a stronger nation and a brighter future.

We had a conversation with the headteacher, who mentioned that since the CSR began, enrollment has grown by 15%, from 296 students in 2024 to 341 in 2025. And absenteeism has dropped significantly.

Ms. Carol, the YMCA school administrator, acknowledged our continued support, stating, “We thank the Kendirita team because even school fees for our high school students is always paid on time.” She was referring to our ongoing CSR program, through which we sponsor several students in various high schools across Kenya—one of whom successfully graduated from Kibera YMCA.

In closing

For us at Kendirita, giving back to our communities is just as important as the journeys we plan for our clients. This initiative reminds us that together, we have the power to create a future where every child has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

As we bid farewell to the students and teachers of YMCA Kibera, our hearts were full with gratitude for what we have accomplished over the past two years. Mr. Musima, the CEO of YMCA Kenya, captured the essence of our mission when he said, “Y’s Men Nairobi keeps students fed, and Kendirita Tours keeps them clean, hygienic, and confident.”

You, too, can be part of this journey of hope and transformation. Join us in making a difference—reach out today, and let’s build brighter futures together.
